Age UK Exeter

Age UK Exeter is an independent charity with its own locally elected board of trustees. The charity provides support and opportunities to over a thousand older people each week in city through our 115 staff and 280 fantastic volunteers. We work to combat loneliness and isolation, promote health and well-being and ensure older people have the information they need to make informed choices about their lives and get the most out of life.

Age UK Exeter was formed in 1987 and is registered with the Charity Commission - charity registration number 1010973. It has its own locally elected board of trustees and is an independent charity and also part of the national network of 168 Age UKs across the country.
Based in Cowick Street, St Thomas, the charity has 115 staff and 280 regular volunteers who give over 30,000 hours of their time each year for the benefit of local older people. We work in a person-centred way to meet the wants and needs of each individual and pride ourselves on being flexible and creative and going the extra mile. Age UK Exeter provides support and opportunities for over 1,000 older people in the city each week. These services include:

• Advice, information and problem solving on everything to do with later life and signposting to sources of support.
• 1:1 'enabling' support to help people remain independent at home and get out and about - help with paperwork, sorting out bills, assisted shopping, practical help in the home etc.
• 1:1 volunteer befriending in people's own homes
• 1:1 befriending over the phone
• Wide variety of activity groups from exercise and Tai Chi to dancing and reading groups
• Variety of day services for people who are physically frail or have dementia
• Community Connector service via GP referral supporting people to engage in community activities and get the most out of life.
• Café and good value lunches exclusively for people over 50
• Computer tuition
