Jeremiahs Journey

We believe that no child or family should feel alone in their grief.

We aim to ensure that children, young people and their parents/carers in Plymouth and the immediate surrounding area have support at a sad and difficult time. This may be because someone special has died or a parent has a terminal illness (the Stepping Stones Project).

Our work is centred around children, young people and their families who are grieving and we always aim to do our best to help them through a difficult and uncertain time.

Children from Plymouth and the immediate surrounding area are put in touch with us for support when they have experienced or are anticipating the death of someone special.

We usually begin with a conversation with each family. For some this might offer enough reassurance or ideas to help. Where a family would like more, then an initial home visit is usually offered so that we can hear how things have been and decide together, how we can be of most use.

Families need support at different times and may be facing lots of challenges. We are respectful of each child and their family’s individual experiences and circumstances. We will be creative in our work and strive for excellence in all areas of the charity.

We will:

> Be responsive to our community through developing and delivering appropriate services for children, young people and their families who are grieving.
> Be committed to sharing knowledge and best practice so that grieving children and young people will be supported in all areas of their lives.
> Be an effective and efficient organisation to ensure the quality and safety for all who are in contact with us.

In the last year we have helped nearly 220 children and young people by meeting with them when they need us. We have also given advice and guidance to parents and carers of a further 96 children.
