PCDT

Penwith Community Development Trust (PCDT) is a charity working in Cornwall whose aims are to relieve poverty, reduce social isolation and support healthy living through education, skills development, volunteering and the promotion of community development. This is achieved through enhancing our communitiesâÂ?Â? social and economic wellbeing with support, guidance and skills training for individuals and groups living within those communities. PCDTâÂ?Â?s ethos is to help people to help themselves and to help them identify their local needs so as to develop and deliver services tailored to suit their environment. PCDT has a well-established track record over many years of leading and delivering large scale community based projects.
We are specialists in developing communities through:
âÂ?¢ high quality training, competitively priced
âÂ?¢ increasing the effectiveness of community & voluntary organisations
âÂ?¢ empowering young people to achieve in life
âÂ?¢ volunteering opportunities and volunteer led projects.

Our services and activities are delivered through five departments each led by a member of the collaborative leadership team. The departments work in an integrated way to deliver all of the above. Through these activities our broad aims are to: promote and develop economic initiatives of benefit to communities in Cornwall; provide and support co-operative initiatives between the voluntary and community sector and public and private agencies; maximise skills in the workforce and increase peopleâÂ?Â?s transferable skills to achieve better delivery of local projects; play a part in the strategic future of the voluntary and community sector in Cornwall; and to lead by example.
All of our work is set against the backdrop of Cornwall being an area of social and economic deprivation with a large voluntary and community sector. Against this context PCDT strives to assist communities and individuals to overcome economic and social barriers and to become resilient and robust.
Our 4 strategic aims are: reaching more people, service development, ensuring quality and sustainability.

This business plan sets out our vision going forward. We plan to focus on what we do well: delivering quality services and activities to those communities and individuals who most need our support. This is becoming harder to achieve year on year as funding becomes a scarce resource for the community development activities that we support. Our overall objective is to create a more mixed income stream that includes some short term fixes to support on-going stability, mid-term capacity development and long term growth. We want to add value and achieve best value in all areas of our existing and emerging work.
