Victim Support

Victim Support can help anyone over 18 affected by crime to cope and recover, not just victims, but their friends, family and anyone else involved. Because we're an independent charity, you can talk to us whether or not you reported the crime to the police. We can support you with or without the involvement of the criminal justice system, and we won't contact them about you unless we feel someone is at risk.

We are here just to support you.

Victim Support is the independent national charity which helps people cope with crime.
We have a network of local branches covering the whole of England and Wales, including a branch in Devon and Cornwall. Nationally we deal with almost 1.5 million victims of crime every year. There are separate organisations covering Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Our trained volunteer supporters in Devon and Cornwall offer:

• someone to talk to in confidence to help you cope and recover

• information on police and court procedures

• help in dealing with other organisations

• information about compensation and insurance

• links to other sources of help.

Our services are free and available to everyone. It doesn't matter when the crime
happened, or if you have not reported it to the police. We are an independent charity and not part of the police, courts or any other criminal justice agency. And our support is not limited to a particular number of sessions - we are led by our clients' needs.

Victim Support also runs the national Homicide Service supporting people bereaved through murder and manslaughter. In Devon and Cornwall VS runs a local project - Plymouth ASB Project - which helps people in Plymouth to cope and recover from antisocial behaviour.
