Young Devon is exists to "change the odds in favour of young people". Challenging negative stereotypes and campaigning to get the voices of your generation heard, raising awareness of the issues that matter to you.

You can get support from Young Devon in Exeter, Newton Abbot, Barnstaple, Ivybridge, Plymouth and Ilfracombe, as well as via outreach workers in the more rurally isolated communities.

Services

  1. Non judgemental one to one support with a trained Youth Support worker. This will be confidential and young people can meet with a worker in our Youth Enquiry Services or we can offer outreach contact if this is not appropriate. This may include referral to our own or other agencies in order to provide additional support or specialist services to the young person led by their own wants and needs wherever possible.

  2. Sometimes you may find yourself in a position you aren't sure about, with someone who you feel you should trust. If you are being given gifts - or denied gifts until you perform a sexual act you may be being exploited. This can include sending sexual images via the internet or mobile phones. Young Devon is a place you can share your worries and get advice about how to move forward. We have trained Youth Workers to support you and link you with partner agencies to help you move into your future.

  3. Have you been treated differently due to something that is fundamentally part of you? This might be your age, sexuality, gender, race, beliefs or disability. We offer non judgemental one to one support with a trained Youth Support worker. Young Devon are advocates for young people and can represent your needs.This will be confidential and young people can meet with a worker in our Youth Enquiry Services or we can offer outreach contact if this is not appropriate.

  4. We offer a confidential counselling service aimed at 13-18 year olds and care leavers. We also offer access to accommodation and one to one support workers who can help build confidence and increase life skills.

  5. A confidential worker will give you information and strategies to make good decisions and to increase your resilience and overall well-being. We work hard to understand a young person, to value their skills, experiences and perspectives, and to strengthen their ability to manage risk, make good choices and employ transferable skills to cope and recover from negative events and incidents.

  6. Young Devon is an experienced and skilled organisation who is committed and experienced in providing support, information and advice on a wide range of subjects and issues to young people. Our primary objective is to enhance lives and promote opportunity for those least likely to have their voices heard. Our commitment to reaching rural communities encapsulates that.

  7. We also have a counselling service, trained advocates, therapeutic workers and sexual health advisers available dependent of numbers, area and costs available.

  8. Young people can access our services in Exeter, Newton Abbot, Barnstaple, Ivybridge, Tavistock, Okehampton, and Ilfracombe as well as via outreach workers in the more rurally isolated communities. Our team of 150 staff put young people at the centre of everything they do; delivering 13500 sessions with young people, putting roofs over the heads of 200 young vulnerable people every night; giving advice and support to 2400 young people per year

  9. Our specialist Homelessness team works with Young People individually to secure them accommodation. Young Devon also provides supported housing units in 5 towns across Devon. Supported Lodgings is offered at various locations- a young person lives with a family or individual who has a spare room and provides informal guidance and practical assistance to the young person, combined with support from a Young Devon worker. We aim to equip residents with the skills to maintain a tenancy and move on.

  10. Our Skills and Enterprise team offer a range of courses for young people. Young people achieve qualifications, create CVs, practice interview skills and most importantly increase self esteem and confidence.

  12. Counselling can help with any problem that is important to you; difficulties at home, work or school, relationships with family or friends, feeling lonely, making difficult decisions, feeling low and depressed, feeling anxious or stressed, coming to terms with unhappy experiences. We have links in local areas with activity and sports groups and we help you contact them.

  13. We work with Young People between 11-25 in a range of circumstances and with a range of needs. Our approach is person centred - to the young person and the situation.
